Tarun was soon questioning Shridhar Vyas at his home.
“Sir, a strand of your hair was found in Tina’s bathroom. Its DNA matches that of yours! What was it doing there?”
The suave Shridhar Vyas appeared flummoxed. But the shrewd person that he was, he kept his eyes from blinking and looked at Tarun squarely in the eye.
“I beg your pardon!”
“You heard it right! Your hair was found at the scene of the crime. What were you doing there? When did you go there? Was Tina alive then? Was Colonel Manavendra there too? Do you know anything about Tina’s murder and the whereabouts of the Colonel?
“No. I don’t know anything about what you are asking. I didn’t go there ever!”
“The DNA evidence says so!” Tarun quietly pointed it out.
“Then prove it! Don’t waste my time.”
“You are under arrest Mr. Shridhar Vyas!” Tarun showed him his arrest warrant, with a flourish.
Shridhar Vyas mutely accompanied him to the police jeep, with two constables holding each arm of his. All that Shridhar could think then was that his fate was sealed.
At the lock-up, the inquisition began in right earnest. Tarun was all business!
“So now you will speak Mr. Vyas, right?”
