Nothing could be more relaxing than gardening. Especially during this pandemic, we could keep stress at bay by just picking up a pot and growing a plant. And then some more!
Though the fruits of labor (read plants) would make their presence felt after some days only, they would definitely be worth the effort and a welcome relief from the monotony of being cooped up for months at a stretch, inside our homes!
Ever since I was very young, flowers and plants held a special place in my heart. My father and mother were also avid enthusiasts and cheered me on in my relentless efforts to grow plants in our small backyard. The result? Lush green plants, including croutons of varied types and flowers of different kinds, growing cheek by jowl! No container was too small or worthless for a seed or sapling!
Some were grown directly in the soil and grew to impressive heights, like the papaya tree that grew from a humble little seed to a majestic 12 feet one, with several branches. Huge papayas soon adorned the tree and drew gasps of admiration and drools from the onlookers. They tasted heavenly, as they were of a hybrid variety that had very less seeds and lots of ripe yellow, juicy and tasty pulp.
Roses of every shade grew in profusion and every morning I would scramble outside after waking up, to see which roses and flowers had bloomed. Ditto the hibiscuses!
Now, in my small terrace garden, I grow plants in pots and sundry containers like discarded mixer jars and garbage bins.
Here are some breathtaking specimens from my terrace garden.
Don't you feel like rushing to the nearest plant nursery now?
