Happy Anniversary

You’ve reached a milestone
Life’s battle, you’ve won
You’ve weathered many a storm
Hand in hand, true to form
You’ve three gems to treasure
Your happiness knows no measure
You look back with satisfaction and pride
By each others’ side, you’ll always abide!
May you have many more!
Your happiness will multiply over and over
For, you’ll always have us, and one another!
         HAPPY ANNIVERSARY !

P.S. This poem was written five years ago. Now my beloved mother has become a star. My parents would have completed 50 years of happy married life today. As it has been truly said, "Man proposes, God disposes."

Environment Day

Aren’t we pleased to be living on Mother Earth?
But will she be around to give more birth?
At the rate at which she’s stripped of her green cover
The melting glaciers will make her go down under!
She’s taken millions of years to form – layer upon layer
But never before has she faced such acute danger!
All her children face starvation, extinction
Mother Earth will surely not get another extension!
Let’s, this day, pledge to save her honor
We’ll also be doing mankind a big favor!

Let's Pledge to Save Our Mother Earth! Save our Future!

1.       Protect and conserve all the natural resources like land, water, minerals, forests, mountains, glaciers, fossil fuels, coral reefs, etc.
2.       Control pollution by recycling, using bio-degradable materials for usage in construction, manufacture of consumables, Eco-friendly buildings, means of transport, fuel sources and habitats.
3.       Protect the ozone layer and prevent global warming and its harmful side-effects by reducing pollution of the environment, natural resources and reducing our carbon foot-prints.
4.       Save our flora and fauna from extinction by setting up sufficient forest reserves, bio-diversity parks, sensitizing the general public about their importance in the food chain and to our environment.
5.       Promoting religious and communal harmony within the nations and encouraging peaceful methods of conflict resolution as wars only tend to destroy the environment and inflict casualties in terms of lives lost, injuries, displacement and chaos.
6.       Banning of nuclear armament creation, chemical and biological weapons.
7.       Avoid construction of too many dams, bridges, buildings.
8.       Keep vast open spaces for recreation, such as parks, play-grounds, community centers.
9.       Ensure effective garbage segregation, collection and disposal. Adopt scientific methods for the same. Avoid open-air burning of garbage, like garden waste, rubber tyers, etc.
1      Build a consensus among all the nations to reduce manufacture, storage and usage of weapons of mass destruction and adopt Nuclear Non-Proliferation as a norm. Avoid stock-piling of any kinds of weapons for deterrence.
1.   Take strict measures against all forms of terrorism. Adopt strategies to bring the terrorists into the mainstream of society by providing rehabilitation.
1.   Encourage the public to use public transport and improve the public transport facilities. Provide incentives for doing so. For example, if employees travel to work in car pools, buses, cycle or walk to work instead of using private cars, awards and increments may be given to them. Hold awareness campaigns.
1.   Prevent hoardings and defacement of rocks, etc. for advertisements.
1.   Put sufficient safety measures in place in mines, factories, construction sites, nuclear reactors, earth-quake and volcano prone areas, or flooding and landslide prone areas.
1.   Invent and use non-conventional means of energy, such as gobar-gas(bio-fuel), solar and wind energy, etc.
1.   Avoid excessive use of electrical appliances like air-conditioners, coolers, heaters, etc.
1.   Put curbs on noise pollution.
1.   Reduce the population by creating awareness in the public about the limited natural resources.
1.   Improve the standards of living and raise hygiene-levels through proper sanitation and pure, drinking water supply.
2.   Replenish ground-water levels through artificial recharging, adopt measures for rain-water harvesting, conserve water through drip-irrigation and create reservoirs to store water throughout the year.

Right

I’ve a right to pure water
Provided I don’t pollute it.
I’ve a right to pure air
Provided I don’t release exhaust into it.
I’ve a right to a clean environment
Provided I keep it clean in the first place.
I have a right to everything/anything
Only if I contribute positively towards it!
