Rangoli
My unique design which is included in the rangoli book 'Priyadarshini' published by me.

Rangoli
I sat down to make a rangoli one day and this design just took shape, on its own!

Floral rangoli
Just before pruning the periwinkle shrubs I picked all the flowers and leaves to make this design.

Hope Lord Ganesha blesses all of us with abundant peace, prosperity, health, wealth, contentment and removes all obstacles from our paths! Also hope that He vanquishes the Corona virus and relieves all of us from this pandemic soon!

Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Memorial

An impressive ode to the Iron Man of India!

The Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Memorial, an imposing and elegant building (an erstwhile palace), is dedicated to a splendid display of artifacts related to the life and times of the great leader who was responsible for the merger and integration of the Princely states in India into the Union of India, after India’s independence.

Moti Shahi Mahal, as this palace was initially named, was built by Emperor Shahjahan between 1618 and 1622. The museum has photographs, writings and other memorabilia of the leader, displayed neatly. Two multimedia halls with interactive exhibits are the highlights here but for lack of time, we couldn’t enjoy them fully.

A small entry fee is charged to enter the Memorial.

A basement gallery has amazing portraits of all the great leaders of India.

Just outside the building are statues of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Mahatma Gandhi and Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, seemingly engaged in conversation! An endearing moment beautifully and deftly captured by the sculptor!

The toilet block was clean but the latch of the toilet I entered, was faulty.

The Memorial’s complex has a small privately managed cafeteria which had lots of items on its menu but could serve us only some vegetable sandwiches after a lot of time! The chutney was very pungent so I could barely manage one of those sandwiches and gobbled some biscuits to curb my hunger pangs.

Excerpt from the story 'Only hard work pays!' (from this e-book)

That night Madhav was going to visit a bar where his girlfriend was a bar dancer. He extended an invitation to Suresh too. “You’ve always refused to indulge in any vices along with me and our friends. But today, I request you to accompany me for this show. I’m sure that your anxiety will be greatly reduced and you’ll be able to relax a little.” Reluctantly, Suresh went along with Madhav to the show.

The bar was a dingy, smoke-filled room where several pot-bellied men, ruffians and some white-collared men sat on chairs around dinner tables and ate and drank non-stop, talking garrulously and ogling at the scantily clad dancers, who went about their dance moves set to the latest popular movie tracks, like robots. Every once in a while, a drunk man would unsteadily get up and throw some notes on the dancers. The girls would scramble to get them and continue with their ‘job’.

“What would you like to have?” asked Madhav solicitously, as he blew a kiss at his girl-friend, who repeated his action and laughed, even as she lip-synced the song blaring from the music system.

“Nothing,” said Suresh tersely. He cursed himself for having accompanied his cousin to such a sleazy place. He just felt nauseous and uneasy. He longed for some fresh air. “Would you mind, if I just went out for a while? I need some fresh air. I’m feeling claustrophobic.”

“Suit yourself,” Madhav said airily. “I’ll order something for both of us. The mutton biryani here is really tasty. I’ll also order wine for both of us. Today, I’ll show you how you must enjoy life. Come soon.”

After 10 minutes, Suresh braced himself to go inside that smelly room once again. How he
wished that he had refused Madhav’s invitation in the first place!

No Mother-in-law, Please!

Excerpt from Chapter 27 - A new chapter begins in Yogita's life

“Ritesh, I am lucky to have a friend like you. You have been my backbone all these days. I cannot imagine what I would have done without you, otherwise! Frankly speaking, I could stay with you even without marrying you. I feel so sure of you!”

          Ritesh’s eyes lit up. “So?”

          “So what? Of course, yes!”

He gathered her into his arms tightly as if he would never let her go. She too clasped him tightly, as shocked children stopped playing mid-way and gawked at them, couples around cheered and the senior citizens frowned at their ‘indecency’.

“Ravi, guess what? We got married in a temple today. The priest was arranged in an hour’s time with a hefty dakshina and we just had some rituals and exchanged garlands after I tied the mangalsutra around Yogita’s neck. Only the five of us had gone to the temple.”

“Ritesh, you lucky guy! You managed it finally. Hearty congratulations to both of you!”

Dargah Hazrat Sidi Syed Shah’s Jali

                                     An amalgamation of two cultures!

This intricate windows' latticework in sandstone, epitomizes the harmony between the Hindu and Islamic culture by incorporating icons of both the religions in a splendid work of craftsmanship. The tree unique to Hinduism and the date palm symbolic of the Islamic religion are found peacefully coexisting side by side.

We viewed this mosque from outside, just for some minutes in the course of our City Tour. But the semicircular windows of this mosque, with this unique symbolism of ‘the tree of life’ sculpted painstakingly in the form of the ‘jali’ captured our hearts.
